The Tri-Elmar is a top performer wide angle zoom lens. This makes a 21-24-28mm lens on the Leica M8.

Performance at 21mm are similar to the Elmarit-M 2.8 21mm except that the later can open at f:2.8.

A new universal wide angle finder with parallax correction is available.

Observations :

IR Filter : complicated
To put an IR filter on this lens is not a straight forward task, it is necessary for this to use an adapter and a 67mm diameter filter. This make some sort of bulk filter ahead of the lens without any sunshade. To prevent reflection through viewer opening in the adapter, a special mask with a hole is available. Not a nice solution indeed. By chance custom made solution like Milich adapter exists. It is a custom made filter adapter with sunshade built in. I had no occasion to test this solution but it is said to work well.

Finder bright line frame precision : not so good
After having used this finder it appears that it is in a small proportion miss-aligned and tends to make the picture too much on the left side.
The short distance parallax correction makes the marks in the finder move vertically (finder is in the same vertical plan as the lens, so no horizontal adjustment necessary).

Round dot window on top : photosensitive
The little round white glass on the top of the finder brings lights to the bubble level. It appears that this white glass is photosensitive and gets green when strongly lightened so it emits some light when in the dark making it easier to see the bubble.
